Continuing Nursing Education

Independent-study CE activities are available for nurses through our Give an Hour, Get an Hour program.

The continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Ohio Nurses Association (OBN-001-91), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission.

A variety of CE modules have been developed for RNs and LPNs who wish to learn about the blood donation process, and more.

  • Blood Administration 101 (approval valid through February 8, 2009)
  • The Origin and Clinical Significance of ABO and Rh Blood Types (approval valid through March 20, 2010)
  • Advances in Apheresis and Patient Care (approval valid through Dec. 21, 2009)
  • Humanity in the Midst of War (approval valid through August 8, 2010)
  • The Blood Donation Process - From Qualified Donor to Patient (Approval valid through June 12, 2010)
  • The Nurses' Role in Raising Awareness About the Need for Blood (approval valid through December 6, 2008)

When you register to donate blood, ask a Red Cross staff member for a self-study module. You can complete it at the donation site and return it to the staff member or mail it to the American Red Cross.
