Media Center Blood donor now driving in style! September 2009 One local blood donor is driving in style after his summer blood donation thanks to Saturn of Columbus. During a summer long campaign, “Summer Blood DRIVE with Saturn,” those who came to give blood in the Central Ohio Region were given the opportunity to enter to win a 1-year lease on any Saturn vehicle of their choice. Nearly 62,000 people came to give blood from June through August. Approximately 500 more people donated blood this summer than last summer. There were 6,489 first-time blood donors this summer as well. Of those groups that hosted drives, 127 of them hosted for the very first time. And the campaign closed at the end of August with the region at 104 percent of needed donations. From all entrants, 10 finalists were selected in a random drawing and invited to Saturn Day at the Zoo on Sunday, Sept. 13, where the final winner was selected. Finalists randomly chose a sealed envelope, and only one contained a winner’s note. The envelopes were opened simultaneously after a grand finale countdown, and the winner was revealed. Jack Hanna helped to recognize the winner, Ben Fithian of Westerville. This was Ben’s very first donation, which he gave at Abbott Nutrition Ross Park. The nine other finalists each received $100 gas cards, a free day at the zoo, and a Jack Hanna autographed hat for their participation. Thanks to Saturn of Columbus for helping recruit donors during the critical summer months. And thanks to all who give the gift of life.
