Media Center Spread seasonal joy by helping boost blood supply December 1, 2008 With the holidays just around the corner, family and friends come together to share family traditions and the joy of the season. As you gather together and exchange gifts with loved ones, the American Red Cross asks eligible individuals to remember to share the gift of life with those in need this holiday season by giving blood. “It’s important that people take the time to donate blood this holiday season to help ensure a stable blood supply,” said Rodney Wilson, American Red Cross spokesperson in the Central Ohio Blood Services Region. “Every two seconds someone in America needs blood. We rely on generous blood donors to help those in need.” Many blood donors have reasons for giving: friends and family members have received blood, blood donation is a way to give back to the community, the feeling of making a difference in the lives of others. Whatever your reason is for giving, when you give blood you play an extremely important role to help ensure a safe and adequate blood supply is available during the winter months. Visit an American Red Cross blood drive to spread the joy of the holiday season. To give blood, you must be at least 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. If you have given blood before, it must be at least 56 days since your last donation. 11/08AP902
