You can donate blood every 56 days.
Each pint of blood can be separated into three components -- red cells, platelets and plasma.
Red blood cells are used in the emergency room to replace blood lost from a sudden accident.
Platelets are given to cancer patients when the chemotherapy destroys not only the cancer cells but also the patient's blood's platelets
