Four-year-old Connor Malone kissed away his mother's tears as the oncology specialist described Connor's tumor and the 44-week course of chemotherapy and radiation treatments he faced. Throughout the course of his treatment, Connor lost his hair. He also lost lifesaving platelets that were destroyed by the 14 rounds of chemotherapy and five weeks of radiation. Connor received platelets from volunteer donors and he was spared complications from bleeding problems. Connor is just one of the many blood recipients every day in central Ohio and across the country.

The American Red Cross has been collecting blood in central Ohio since 1948. Since then, blood collections have grown from 50 donations to about 200,000. These lifesaving units of blood are supplied to 39 medical facilities within a 27-county area in central Ohio.
